Politicians go to great lengths to lie to save their own skin when they are in trouble. They also lie for the sake of political expediency or even for political mileage.
They resort to utter lies especially during desperate moments which call for desperate measures. And lying seems to be their escape route whether rightly or wrongly.
This is because the political game has become somewhat more challenging to the extent that politicians are becoming frivolous, ignoring the perimeters of decorum boundaries.
They have become more “hard up” and are more “biadap” to champion their cause.
If there is a contest for Top of the Lies contest, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah would have won hands down.
Her recent attempt to glorify herself among her Christian crowd by stating that Malays should have the right of freedom to choose their religion, has however not gone down well with the Muslim clerics and all.
Naturally when she said that there should be no compulsion for Malays to be Muslims, she received applause at the Tabernacle Church in Subang. That was what she had prayed for anyway – to gain political mileage.
However her statement went awry when Muslim clerics criticized her for encouraging apostasy.
As a result, she had to rescue herself from the “quicksand” that she has gotten herself into. And what better way than to push the blame on Utusan Malaysia for misquoting her.
This is despite the fact that she was caught on video happily and proudly pronouncing that Muslims need not be subjected to the mandatory laws of embracing Islam.
Not only that, Malaysiakini – the pro Pakatan Rakyat website – even reported that she actually said that.
Well that is Nurul for you, just like the father who was videotaped having sex with a Chinese woman but he says “it’s not me because my stomach is not that big”.
Then we have another joker in Pakatan Rakyat – Teja assemblyman Chang Lih Kang who lied through his teeth just to spite the recently introduced Automated Enforcement System (AES).
He had claimed that he had received seven summonses issued under the Automated Enforcement System. However checks by the Transport Ministry revealed that none of the summonses received by Chang were under the AES.
What a blatant liar just to ride on the bandwagon of critics of the system. Come on, there can be better ways to criticize than to resort to dishonest means.
And it’s no hero of him for saying that he would not settle the summonses. As a state assemblyman, he should lead by example and not condone those who flout the law.
Chang should actually reveal what are the offences he has committed and accept the punishment by settling the summonses. He is not above the law.
He should be reminded that every year, more than 6,800 people die on the road in over 400,000 accidents in our country. What would be the feelings of those whose loved ones had perished in the accidents?
Then in Penang, it is a case of great misconduct and deceit on the part of the Pakatan state government.
It is grossly dishonorable for the state to accept full payment for the Taman Manggis land from another company and offering to sell the same land to Barisan Nasional.
How can they accept earnest money from Barisan Nasional for the purchase of the land when it had been sold to Kuala Lumpur International Dental Centre Sdn Bhd which planned to set up a five-star medical centre, which only the rich could afford.
Not only the 0.4 ha site in the heart of George Town was sold at a pittance of only RM232 psf or RM11 million, it was revealed that the land was originally earmarked for low cost housing by the previous government under Barisan Nasional.
As a safe face measure, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, had challenged Barisan to buy up the land if they say so much about allocating the land for the poor.
It was offered to Barisan at double the price at RM22 million. Why hadn’t the state got a better price for it in the first place ?
And gladly so, Barisan raised the money after a special purpose company was set up – Taman Manggis Phase Two Sdn Bhd – owned by six Barisan Nasional supporters comprising developers and technocrats from Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
For the naive buggers out there, Penang is now “bolih land” where everything goes. Developers First, People last.
Stop all the lies, please.
