The Raja of Perlis wants the Malay community to give prominence to unity and be far-sighted.
PADANG BESAR: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, has urged the Malays to avert controversy and suspicion among themselves to enable them become a stronger community.
He said the community should always give prominence to unity and be far-sighted.
Solidarity among the Malays was necessary not only now but at all times, even in the future, he said when simultaneously officiating the Perlis-level Maal Hijrah 1434 celebrations and opening the Nurul Naim Mosque in Felcra Lubok Sireh, here, last night.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the ‘Wasatiyyah’ (moderate) approach in life was important in establishing harmony among the people.
In conjunction with the celebrations, the imam of the Alwi Mosque in Kangar, Ku Abdullah Ku Jusoh, 77, was announced as the Perlis Maal Hijrah 1434 personality. He received RM10,000, a certificate and other prizes.
At the event, Form Four student Amirul Asraf Abdullah, 16, of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma, received a special award for a convert for excellence in education and co-curricular activities. He received RM1,000, a certificate and other prizes.
The Nurul Naim Mosque, built in 1988 and officially opened 24 years later, was adjudged the best mosque and received RM3,000 while the Nurul Iman Mosque in Nesan received RM1,000 in the beautification category.
