Its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, outlined four steps he said would help correct the current imbalance and create a fair and accountable economic state that will increase disposable income and reduce cost of living.
“Our country, which is rich with natural resources, will go bankrupt if it stays in Barisan Nasional’s hand,” he said in his opening address at the Islamist party’s national conference, or Muktamar, here today.
“Economic transformation ala-BN which tries to make us equal to the West, is not the yardstick that people want,” he added.
In its four steps, PAS urges the adoption of a national economic philosophy that emphasises equality and prosperity, with fair fiscal and monetary policies .
This philosophy is to be implemented morally, with holistic accountability to prevent wastage, leakage and graft.
The third step proposes the management of natural resources in a fair and transparent manner.
PAS also stressed that it rejects discrimination by race, religion and political leanings to avoid cronyism and monopoly enforced by cartels.
The party also vowed to re-evaluate mega projects, which are perceived to harm the public and environment, such as the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC).
