JOHOR BARU - A Chinese traditional medicine practitioner was found dead and his girlfriend seriously injured at the man's double-storey house in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya here yesterday.
The body of Ang Keng, 40, who sustained gunshot wounds to the head and body, was found on the ground floor. His girlfriend, Sureen Toh, 30, who also sustained a gunshot wound was found in a room on the first floor of the house in Jalan Permas 12/10.
Johor Baru (South) police chief ACP Zainuddin Yaacob said a police forensics unit did not find any sign of a break-in at the house. He did not rule out the possibility that the couple knew the assailants.
Met at the scene of the crime, Zainuddin said police received a call from Toh at 5.15pm, saying that she and Ang had been shot.
"Our (police) team arrived at the house, accompanied by an ambulance, but Ang was already dead and Toh had sustained injuries on the body," he added.
He said police had yet to determine the motive of the murder and attempted murder, adding that no valuables were missing from house.
The police chief said investigators would study the footage of a closed-circuit television camera which was installed in the house.
Ang's body was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital. Toh was warded at the hospital in critical condition.
