Teng 'fully informed' about Selangor DAP convention

Selangor DAP vice-chairperson Teng Chang Khim's absence from the party’s state annual convention last Sunday is completely unacceptable, said a source in the state committee.

According to the source, who declined to be named, Teng's explanation that he was ‘only informed at the last minute’ is flawed.

NONE“Two letters were sent to all delegates. The first was sent on Sept 7 so that they could block off the date for the convention. The second letter, an official one citing the party constitution, was sent on Oct 24, more than a week before the convention,” he claimed.

In addition, as state committee vice-chairperson, Teng (above) is included in the committee email group.

Many emails had been exchanged with regard to the working papers and reports to be presented during the convention, explained the source.

“Although he has never responded, he is in the email group. Surely he knew there was a state convention coming up,” the source said.

He pointed out that Teng was the sole committee member who did not show up.

“Is he so isolated from other members that he did not know about the convention?”

Absence from meetings

The source also alleged that Teng has not attended state committee meetings since March.

“The meeting is called once every six weeks. He did not attend four consecutive meetings.”

2012 selangor dap convention 041112 teresa kok delegates 2The Selangor DAP state annual convention on Sunday had recorded abysmal attendance of 311 or 26.97 percent of the 1,153 delegates, barely meeting the quorum of 25 percent.

Yesterday, Teng had said he was only informed about the convention at the eleventh hour, by which time it was too late to cancel his attendance at two events in his constituency.

He also said he did not attend the committee meetings in September and October as previous meetings had only discussed ‘trivial matters’ rather than election preparations.

In apparent criticism of the party state leadership, he yesterday posted a message on his Twitter webpage: “Don't keep on telling me to look at the larger picture. Let me tell you, 'silence is not an option when things are ill done'.”
