Umno rep: Klang didn't get its bridge because BN lost

Selangor Opposition Leader Satim Diman today explained that the BN federal government did not make good on its promise to build a third bridge in Klang because the coalition was defeated in Selangor.

NONEHe was responding to Shuhaimi Shafiei (PKR-Sri Muda) who queried about BN’s promised bridge after Satim (left) repeatedly hammered at the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government for its “unfulfilled promises”.

“It is difficult for me to answer... had the people of Selangor elected BN, it (bridge) would have been completed long ago, but the problem is we weren’t chosen,” he told the Selangor legislative assembly during the budget debate this morning.

When it was pointed out by Shuhaimi that it was a federal project and BN was in fact elected as the federal government, Satim countered that the bridge was a state promise.

“At that time, BN was ruling Selangor and the promise was if we win (in the state) at the last general election, but we lost.

“Had we been chosen, our promise would be fulfilled, the answer is as simple as that. So now we challenge for Selangor to be given back to BN, then it can be done,” he said.

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had yesterday announced, when tabling the budget, that the state will use RM300 million from its massive RM2.2 billion reserves to construct the third bridge for Klang on its own to “realise BN’s unfulfilled promises”.
Earlier, Satim had accused the Pakatan-led Selangor government of failing to fulfill at least eight cash handout programmes promised in its 2008 general election manifesto.

"We have studied this and about RM2.4 billion worth of programmes have yet to be implemented... we are also aware that there is no way the state government has the financial capability to fulfill all those promises.

"We urge the people not to be fooled for a second time," he said.
