Adnan: Umno members need to support party without expecting any position

KUANTAN, Dec 6 – Umno or other Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members should accept the decision of the top party leadership sincerely and continue to support the party even if they are not fielded for the 13th general election.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said those who would be selected certainly had the trust of party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who would choose candidates from among credible party members.
“Nonetheless, the (decision of the) president must be given priority as he has the network and information to make accurate decision (in selecting the candidates) and would certainly choose winnable candidates,” he said.  The Pahang Umno liaison chairman disclosed this to reporters after officiating a mass circumcision, ear piercing and ‘khenduri rakyat’, here today.  Adnan said party members should not hope for positions if they wanted to join in the Umno and BN struggles.
“If we join politics and use it as a platform for our struggles, position in the party is not important. If we are chosen, we have to discharge our responsibility.
“Emulate the spirit shown by Cikgu Seman, who was mentioned by the prime minister in his winding up speech at the Umno General Assembly 2012 recently, who was very loyal and committed in supporting Umno although he had never held any position in the party,” he said.
Meanwhile in BESUT, the Besut Umno division is streamlining its strategy to face the 13th general election after getting useful ideas from the Umno General Assembly.
The division’s information bureau deputy chairman, Ghazali Che Noh said that the bureau was drawing up final plans after being inspired by the Umno president especially in efforts to inject a strong fighting spirit among the members.
Speaking to the media after the bureau’s meeting last night, Ghazali said several activities would be carried out before year end beginning with the programme on the ‘President’s Message’ in Gong Kemuntong on Dec 14.
He hoped that the 2,000 participants expected to attend the programme would analyse what had been conveyed by the president and disseminate the information to the grass roots. – Bernama
