GOMBAK VIOLENCE: Umno trying to fulfil its 'May 13' wish?

Following the fracas last night in Gombak in which a man was stabbed by pro-UMNO thugs during an event featuring Pakatan Rakyat leaders, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu opined that it could be a direct result of the just concluded UMNO general assembly where the spectre of race riots was raised.

“This is a result of UMNO’s congress and perhaps a prelude to May 13,” Mat Sabu (pic) told Harakahdaily when asked for his response.

Wanita UMNO chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, speaking at the UMNO meeting last week, warned of racial riots ala-May 13 if UMNO lost the next election.

Earlier, the violence, which was believed to be started by a group of UMNO supporters who attempted to stage a march to disrupt the PR event, drew strong condemnations and calls on the police to act without delay.

The event is part of the coalition's ongoing roadshow series under Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat in the run-up to the general election.

Mat Sabu said the police must prove it still had credibility by investigating the case immediately.

“Don’t be UMNO’s lackey,” he added.

Gombak UMNO Youth chief Megat Dzulkarnian however shifted the blame on PKR supporters, alleging that the latter hurled stones at 500 UMNO Youth members.
