Sabah Election Commission (EC) deputy director of operations Aksyah Nasrah says he resigned his post in Umno before he joined the commission.
"I gave up my post in Umno Youth long before I joined the EC," he told Malaysiakini when contacted today, adding that he no longer takes part in any political activity.
The former Kinabatangan Umno Youth division information chief also said that the EC has resolved the issue.
"I am not involved in any post under Umno Youth and in any political activity... Therefore, the issue raised by (Sabah PAS Youth chief) Lahirul (Latigu) is invalid," Aksyah (left) said.
He also stressed that he was answering the allegation raised against him in his personal capacity.
Aksyah said then when asked for his response to the demand by Lahirul that he should either resign from his position in Umno or in the EC so as to protect the integrity of the EC.
In a related development, Malay daily Sinar Harian today quoted EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof as saying the EC would not advise Aksyah to resign over his role in Umno.
However, Abdul Aziz said, Aksyah should not be active in a political party or holding a party post while serving the EC.

"We need to see what actually happened (in this case). We can't make a mistake in taking action against government officer. He can take us to court," he said, adding that the EC would gather information on the matter and take action according to the guidelines set by the Public Service Commission.
Also today, PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan (right) warned Abdul Aziz that keeping political office bearers as officers in the EC would expose the general election to disputes, thus jeopardising the legitimacy of the government that is elected.
Nasrudin pointed out that the EC of Thailand, which was influenced by political parties, had sparked a constitutional crisis that dragged in the Thai monarch and military into politics and caused enduring uncertainty in the government.
"PAS Youth hopes that Abdul Aziz can be firm in prohibiting his officers to be members of political parties," he added.
