Selangor to cover up AES cameras with red cloth

Selangor to cover up AES cameras with red cloth
SHAH ALAM - Selangor will "cover up" the two Automated Enforcement System (AES) speed cameras and will not take them down as demanded.
Local Government Committee chairman Ronnie Liu said the authorities will cover up the cameras with a piece of cloth at 2.30pm, Friday.
The two AES cameras are at Km6.6 of the South Klang Valley Expressway and Km301.6 of the North-South Expressway near Bangi.
Liu said Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had agreed to give the contractors another 14 days to apply for a development order with the Sepang Municipal Council.
"We will cover them using 'red cloth'. We have the power to remove them but Tan Sri (Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) wanted to cover them up first.
"Then we will see who will uncover the camera," he told reporters at the University Selangor lobby today.
On the decision by the Road Transport Department to extend the AES payment notice from 60 days to six months, Liu said it could be due to call for those issued summons to take the matter to court.
He said those who received the AES notices should contact the Anti Summons Committee.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha criticised the move as irresponsible and called it a publicity stunt.
"In Selangor, 1,070 people died in road accidents last year," Kong said. "Did Ronnie Liu offer sympathy to the victims' families?"
