Graft claim on Nizar's MB appointment insult to sultan

Perak PAS has accused those claiming that corruption was involved in the appointment of Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as the Perak menteri besar following the historic 2008 general election, were insulting the intelligence of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.

NONEIn a memorandum to the sultan, Perak PAS strategies and issues committee coordinator Raja Ahmad Iskandar said this was because it was the ruler who had appointed Nizar (right) to the post.

"To say the appointment was made, not at the will of the sultan, is disappointing. That there were elements of corruption was directly implied by statements made during the Perak assembly sitting (last month)," reads the memorandum, which was handed over to the aide of the Perak sultan, Shamsul Bahari, at his office in Kuala Kangsar yesterday.

The allegation first surfaced when pro-BN blogger claimed in his blog pisau.net that Kelantan government had given a 10,526-acre spread of land in Gua Musang, valued at over RM30 million, to a company owned by Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham.

This, it was alleged was part of negotiations between DAP and PAS over the appointment of the Pasir Panjang asssemblyperson to the office upon Pakatan's capture of the state.

The allegation was later echoed by Perak Umno leaders during Dec 20 the state assembly sitting.

It was later denied by Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abul Aziz Nik Mat who clarified that the Kelantan Islamic Foundation, having failed to develop the land in 2000, leased the parcel to the Upayapadu Plantation company, which was not chaired by Ngeh at the time.

Yesterday, Ngeh stated that pisau.net made a correction to the initial posting on Jan 13, saying there had been no exchange of land among Ngeh, his cousin Nga Kor Ming and Nik Abdul Aziz to ensure that the Perak menteri besar's post went to PAS.

Ngeh said the blogger then closed the site before moving on to another.

The post of Perak menteri besar was later taken over by Pangkor assemblyperson Zambry Abd Kadir in 2009 made possible by the defactions of three Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives to turn BN-friendly independents.
