Nagarajan's death: Police have called for inquest

The police have recommended an inquest into the circumstances of odd-job worker K Nagarajan's death in custody and are still waiting for it to commence.

"That's all. We are still waiting for the inquest," said Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Ku Chin Wah when asked if there were any new developments in the case.

"Once the inquest has commenced, whatever information there is, we will give out," he told a press conference today.

He said the matter is now in the hands of the deputy public prosecutors and the magistrate, and assured that due process is being followed.

Nagarajan was arrested on Dec 21 for drug-related offences but was found dead at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters three days later.

His family claimed that the police told them that he died of a fall in the lock-up but found this difficult to believe because of bruises and gashes found on Nagarajan's body.

The case is being investigated as one of sudden death.
