SEMENYIH, Jan 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today took to task the Selangor government for blaming others over the water crisis in the Klang Valley.
He said he was saddened and disappointed to see the people living in the Klang Valley burdened by the crisis, especially flat residents who had to carry water to their homes to meet their daily needs.
“I am saddened to see people living in flats having to lift buckets of water to the upper floors. Two flight of stairs might not be so bad, what if 10 floors? It might not be a heavy burden for the young, but what if they are elderly people. It’s just making life difficult for the people.
“They (Selangor government) are busy pointing fingers and blaming SYABAS (the water concessionaire in Selangor) and the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for the crisis, but this is not the way, this is not the time. We want to blame others, what does that mean?
“Solve the water problem of the people. We (BN) cannot because they (Selangor government) won’t give the development order (for the Langat 2 water treament plant which is needed to avert water crises in the Klang Valley). We want to open additional pumping stations, they also don’t give approval,” he said.
Najib said this at a “Meet-the-People” event organised by the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) at Dataran Tesco here. — Bernama
