Another ‘dubious’ voter in Selangor

This time, Klang MP Charles Santiago alleged that a Malaysian residing overseas got herself 'automatically registered' as a voter at his parliamentary constituency.
PETALING JAYA: As the general election looms over the horizon, more reports emerge of discrepancies in the electoral roll.
This time, DAP MP Charles Santiago alleged that he found one case of a Malaysian working overseas being “automatically registered” at his parliamentary constituency.
Speaking to FMT, Santiago said that he received a complaint from Bharat Menon, a resident of Taman Gembira, Klang, alleging that his niece was found to be a voter at the area, when she never registered herself with the Election Commission (EC).
“Bharat’s niece, Premilla Menon, 34, received a New Year greeting letter from Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. The letter also indicated her voting area and other details.
“When Bharat checked the matter with Premilla, she told her uncle that she never registered herself as a voter,” said Santiago.
He added that Premilla is residing in Dublin, Ireland, for the past five years.
He said that a check on the EC’s website confirmed that Premilla is indeed a registered voter.
Santiago urged the EC to investigate the matter as soon as possible as the general election could be called anytime.
“How could this happen? Based on my check, I found out that Premilla was registered in the first quarter of last year,” he said.
Santiago is set to lodge a police report on the matter later today.
Last month, a Selangor DAP state assemblyman Lau Weng San claimed that he found three dubious names registered in two houses in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Kubu Baru.
Hulu Langat DAP chief, Lee Kee Hiong, said that so far, she has found about 40 dubious names in the electoral list in the Petaling Jaya area alone.
The “voters” were traced using the greeting letter from Najib.
