Claudia's body expected to arrive tomorrow evening
The body of former The Sun and Malaysiakini journalist Claudia Theophilus who was killed in Lebanon last week, is expected to arrive tomorrow evening.
Umno Youth complaints bureau chairperson Muhammad Khairun Aseh, was quoted by The Star Online that the party's mission led by the bureau's assistant director, Khairil Anuar Ahmad had arrived in Beirut on Feb 5.
"Claudia's body was identified by her sister, Dora, at a hospital in Baakleen, some 90 minutes away from Beirut. The mission team is also seeking further clarification from the Lebanese police, and their statements have also been recorded," said Khairun in a statement.
Khairun said, in complying with the family's wishes, the body will be sent back as soon as possible and that this matter had been applied to the court.
"The court also ordered the police to return all belongings of the deceased, including those categorised as evidence in the ongoing investigation," he said, adding that the mission's success was due to support from Theophilus' family as well as the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut and Wisma Putra.
It was reported that Claudia, a producer with Al-Jazeera, an English online daily, died from a stray bullet at about 2.30am on Feb 2.
