PETALING JAYA: A DAP assemblyman from Selangor alleged that he has found three dubious names registered in two houses in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Kubu Baru.
Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San said two of the names were registered in a house in Section 21, PJ and one in Taman Pesara, KKB.
“The house owner in PJ received two letters from Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to his address.
“However, he was shocked when he found them addressed to one Ho Kam Chai and Shamzani Md Hussain. He immediately gave the letters to me and insisted that he lived there all his life and never rented his place to anyone,” he told a press conference today.
The letter by Najib was sent out to all voters in Selangor to urge them to support Barisan Nasional in the coming general election.
Also present at the press conference today were Hulu Langat and Hulu Selangor DAP chiefs Lee Kee Hiong and Chng Boon Lai.
Both Ho and Shamzani were “voters” for the Damansara Utama state assembly seat and the Petaling Jaya Utara parliamentary constituency.
In the KKB case, Lau said that the resident in Taman Pesara, Wong Wai Han, received a letter to his address for one known as Wan Mohd Fazli Omar.
“Wong told us that he lived all his life in the house and had never rented the place to anyone. Prior to the house being built, the place was a vacant land,” he added.
Wan Mohd Fazli is registered to vote for the KKB state assembly seat and Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency.
40 dubious voters in PJ
Lee concurred with the state assemblyman and showed Wong’s electricity and assessment bills to the media to confirm Wong’s ownership of the home in KKB.
She also said that she suspected Wan Mohd Fazli was only recently added into the electoral list.
“We have gone from house to house in KKB last year to identify newly registered voters but we didn’t come across Wan Mohd Fazli’s name in the area,” she claimed.
Lee, who is also Kajang Municipal concillor, urged all voters in Selangor to lodge a complaint with DAP should they find dubious names registered under their home addresses.
When asked if they had approached the Election Commission (EC) on the matter, Lau said they were in the midst of compiling the dubious names before going to the electoral body.
“For now, I have found about 40 dubious voters in the PJ area. We will collect all the details before going to the EC,” he said.
EC: Lodge official complaint
When contacted, EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar urged Lau to compile the cases and lodge an official complaint with the Selangor EC office.

However, he also said that there were many reasons why one’s name could be registered in someone else’s address.
“Sometimes the house owners allow their friends and families to register in their addresses. However, they forget this after many years,” he added.
He insisted that there must be a reason for this and EC would never register someone without proper documentation.
“But it’s alright. We welcome public feedback on this and once an official complaint is lodged, our investigation team will probe the matter,” said Wan Ahmad.
