Kedah MB, 10 exco members take oaths of office

Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak and 10 executive council members were sworn in in front of the Council of Regency chairperson Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah.

Azizan, when met after the ceremony at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar today, said the appointment was made seeing their terms would expire on Feb 28. Their portfolios were retained.

“If the general election takes place after Feb 28, a caretaker government is available while we wait for the result of the general election. The portfolios are valid until the menteri besar and new excecutive councillors are sworn in (after the general election),” he told reporters.

Kedah is one state where the state level committee chairperson’s post (executive councillor) must be renewed each year.
Azizan stressed that he did not have to apologise to the staff of Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) whom he accused of being agents of Umno for often making protests against the management of the college.

He said he was not bothered about the demands for an apology for dragging them into the political cauldron.

“What is there to apologise about? They are agents of Umno, that was why Shahrizat (Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil) defends them. I am not surprised because they (the staff) called the journalists and talked on television when they have a problem.

“If they are truly sincere, they should come and see me, they are all intelligent people,” he said.

He was commenting on the demand by Kuin staff who regretted being accused of being Umno agents whilst they claimed they had never been paid by any political party but only fought for their rights and welfare.

On the urging by Shahrizat that Azizan set up a committee to investigate and audit the issue and the allegation raised by the staff of Kuin, he said it was not necessary.

“What is there to investigate? If they want to investigate they can go to MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission),” he said.
