If 30% of Malay voters vote against MCA in the remaining constituencies it currently holds, the Chinese-only BN party may face a wipe-out.
This is the conclusion by UMNO's former state assemblyman for Pulau Manis, Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz.
"The prospects of eliminating MCA as such is good. Some 80% to 85% of non-Malays are supporting Pakatan and 50% of the Malays will vote for Pakatan.
"We have many instances where voters in areas with Malay majority gave substantial support to Pakatan," said Ariff, writing in his column on news portal Free Malaysia Today.
Ariff, who was information chief of the Pekan UMNO division under prime minister Najib Razak, said MCA had "lost its credibility and relevance", especially in its current campaign against PAS to complement UMNO's anti-DAP propaganda among the Malay electorate.
"It (MCA) goes to town, saying if Pakatan Rakyat wins, then PAS will 'Talibanise' everything. It claims if Pakatan wins you can’t play mahjong, eat pork, bah kut teh, wash hair, yam seng and all that.
"But we all know that MCA must say that PAS will restrict everything," he said.
