MCA leaders hope Year of the Snake brings prosperity to country

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — MCA leaders hope this Chinese New Year, which marks the Year of the Snake, will bring prosperity to Malaysia and well-being to its people, especially with the 13th general election drawing nearer.
“I pray that all Malaysians live in peace, harmony and prosperity. And for harmony and understanding between the various races because these are the foundation to achieving success,” said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek (picture).
He was speaking to reporters at the MCA Chinese New Year open house at the Sri Johor Flats in Cheras attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and more than 10,000 people.
Also present were former Prime Ministers Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamed Ali, and Malaysia’s Special Envoy (Infrastructure) to India and South Asia Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.
Other leaders included MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, People’s Progressive Party senior vice-president Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz and a number of Barisan Nasional (BN) component party leaders.
Dr Chua, who declined to comment on the 13th general election, thanked the local community for willing to make the time to be with Najib, Muhyiddin and the MCA leaders to usher in Chinese New Year.
Meanwhile, Health Minister and MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai expressed hope that Malaysians would continue supporting BN and its component parties.
“Only the present BN government will be able to continue the country’s development and safeguard the people’s well-being,” he said.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said Malaysia was lucky to be a peaceful country where the communities get to celebrate multi-racial festivals.
“We can gather here in the spirit of 1 Malaysia with music and food. This is the spirit that strengthens Malaysians,” she said.
Dr Mahathir said he was very optimistic about BN garnering good support from the people at the 13th general election judging from the overwhelming turnout at the MCA Chinese New Year open house today. — Bernama
