KOTA KINABALU, Feb 11 – Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee is ready to contest on a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket in the upcoming general election, if PKR de facto leader and Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim promises to give Sabah autonomy should the opposition emerge victorious.
The former Sabah Chief Minister stressed that Sabah autonomy was the party’s main struggle and it was non-negotiable, saying the state government must be decided by the people of Sabah, and not by Kuala Lumpur.
“We can negotiate on seat distribution but Sabah autonomy is non-negotiable.
“I, Yong Teck Lee, can even contest on PKR ticket if Anwar promises Sabah autonomy,” he told reporters when met at the party’s Chinese New Year open house at SM Kian Kok Hall, near here today.
Yong was asked to comment on Anwar’s overture, wanting to see SAPP teaming up with Pakatan Rakyat and compromise on seat distribution for the GE. – Bernama
