Selangor MB Khalid: We can show BN how to manage properly

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said his government is willing to show the BN how to run a country properly, if the people vote for a change in Putrajaya at the coming general election.

Describing how the BN-led federal government had managed the country in an irresponsible manner resulting in a huge budget deficit, the fledgling MB said BN policies are directed to profit the coalition and its cronies, and not for the welfare of Malaysians.

NONEHe said even after 50 years of BN rule, the welfare of the people had been neglected and if BN is allowed to rule further, the situation would not change.

“Umno and BN do not know the difference between business and looking after the welfare of the people.

“One of the reasons why the country does not have enough money as it has recorded a huge deficit budget all these years is because they do not manage the money properly,” said Khalid.

He was speaking at the launch of a school hostel for estate children in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Khalid said Pakatan valued the people’s welfare and managed its governments transparently, something PM Najib Razak could learn from.

“That is the difference between BN and Pakatan - we are transparent. We know how to use the money properly.

“This is something maybe the present PM can learn from us, provided there is a change,” he said.
BN's 'crazy business'
Khalid cited the example of the federal government giving a RM200 pay-off for youth to purchase smart phones.

NONEKhalid said such programmes only benefit certain businesses, given that phone vendors could find youth to collaborate with them to get the RM200 cash handout without purchasing the smartphones.

“They could give the phone numbers to the government (as proof of purchase) and share the money with the youth.

“This is truly crazy business and they (the federal government) is using the people’s money to profit the businessmen.

Present at the event was Selangor exco Xavier Jeyakumar and Pakatan MPs and assemblypersons.

This is the first hostel built specifically for estate workers’ children in Malaysia.

It would be built on a eight-hectare land in Ijok and is expected to house 100 children to allow them to concentrate on their studies, said Khalid, as studies have shown that students staying in hostels could improve their studies by 50 percent.
'Water cheaper after state takeover'
Khalid said Pakatan’s prudence would also apply to the management of water in the state.

He said the federal government wanted to increase the price of water as it is meant to profit their cronies.

NONE“I promise that if the Selangor Pakatan government is allowed to manage water, it would be cheaper than before as we know how to differentiate business and welfare,” he said.

When Pakatan took over the Selangor administration, it gave RM20 worth of free water for each household.
“BN administration has always been to take advantage of you not because they want to help but to reap profits from all of you.

“Like the water issue, the water minister (Peter Chin) said Selangor water is cheap and want to raise water prices. This is to the benefit of the BN cronies (who manage it). It is the businesses which reap the profit and the ones to pay for it are the people.
“Please do not fool the people as times have changed,” he said.

“We are making this (hostel) at a cost of RM5 million. The federal government and the prime minister are spending RM50 million for an event this evening. We know that giving back to the people is better,” he said.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is scheduled to attend the Hindu Ponggal celebrations at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur this evening.

Malaysians, Khalid said, are looking for a transparent, responsible and capable government and Pakatan shown proof of that ability in Selangor over the past five years.

That is why, Khalid added his government wanted to return to the people for a mandate by calling for polls.

“Unlike this person, he and the BN had already governed for 50 years and he wants to extend it (this term) further by not calling elections,” he said.

Khalid had reiterated that he may dissolve the state assembly after Chinese New Year even if the federal government is not prepared to do so.
