Selangor sultan wants orderly state assembly dissolution

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said today the Selangor sultan told him not to announce the dissolution until a decision to dissolve has been made, which Khalid has promised to abide with.

“I have told His Royal Highness that I have no qualms about having the (state) election simultaneously with the parliamentary election,” he told a press conference after the state executive council meeting in Shah Alam today.

Khalid said this when asked whether the state government would announce the state legislative assembly’s dissolution after the Chap Goh Meh celebration this coming Sunday.

In addition, he said the sultan has told the state government to conduct the dissolution in an orderly manner.

Asked what the advantages of an early dissolution were, he said it would show that the state government was ready to face the election.

“The sultan is not halting the dissolution, but he suggests that it be done in a proper and orderly manner, and he has asked me to announce it only when the dissolution is to take place.

“We will be relieved when the election takes place. Some friends keep asking when the election will be held, so we say that ‘Selangor is ready for the election’.

“Therefore, I accept the ruler’s words and counsel that the election must be held. I also accept his instruction to hold the election in an orderly manner, so no one will claim that Selangor did not run it properly.
