Shaziman Transport denies link with works minister
Despite having a similar name, Shaziman Transport Sdn Bhd has refuted it has any links to Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor.
More so when it has been alleged that it has used its 'connections' in obtaining petroleum tanker transportation contracts from Petronas Dagangan Bhd, a subsidiary of the national oil company.
"The name Shaziman doesn't mean the works minister owns the company. It is like putting Lim Guan Eng's name on a company, then accusing Lim of owning it," Shaziman Transport director Ginderpal Singh told Malaysiakini when contacted.
At a press conference this morning, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chairperson Badrul Hisham Shaharin (left) claimed the company, under a nominee of Shaziman's, is monopolising the tanker business.
In an open letter to Petronas, Badrul Hisham who is popularly known as Chegubard, claimed that the success of Shaziman Transport was bringing other Bumiputera companies to the brink of closing down.
He urged Petronas to respond as many small and medium transporters could not survive because of the ‘monopoly' of Shaziman Transport.
However Ginderpal said that the company was awarded its contracts - three consecutive successful open tenders since 2001 - because of its good performance.
He also denied it had a monopoly of the business.
In immediate response to the company's denial, Chegubard said he has evidence to show that a relative of Shaziman Abu Mansor was involved in the company.
A check by Malaysiakini with the Companies Commission of Malaysia did not bear this out.
Chegubard refused to give out details on his allegations, saying he would do so in the future.
