Yet again, mob attacks ANAK at Felda camp while police stood by

The vocal National Felda Settlers’ Children Association, or ANAK, was again confronted by a pro-UMNO mob as policemen stood idly, this time at Felda Sungai Tengi in Hulu Selangor.

“I am disappointed with policemen who were standing at the sides and allowed those thugs to throw chairs and collide with Unit Amal. At that point, I had just taken the stage to welcome the audience,” ANAK president Mazlan Aliman recalled the incident last night to Harakahdaily.

“They said it was a political programme and that they did not wish to meddle,” he added.

Some 100 people believed to be members of UMNO and the pro-BN group Perkasa participated in the disturbance at the event, forcing organisers to call it off.

Mazlan, who is also PAS central committee member, said a police report had been lodged at 4.00 am this morning.

He expressed regret that the incident took place despite a meeting with Bukit Aman police officers for cooperation to ensure security at the event.

“Barely 10 hours after we asked police for cooperation, the harassment took place again. In fact, we had informed the police before every programme,” he said.

Mazlan said a memorandum was delivered to Inspector General of Police through his public communication assistant Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf to protest roadblocks preventing activities in Felda areas.

Prior to this, ANAK’s convoy dubbed Kembara Oren was harassed continuously during its tour to Felda areas nationwide, leaving participants injured.

No suspect has been arrested so far.
