Battle of titans in Gelang Patah?

Incumbent Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman has said he is open to a battle of titans in Gelang Patah against DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang in the upcoming general election.

However, Abdul Ghani said any decision was still subject to the BN top leadership, according to a report by Sunday Star today.

"I'm open to all options. If he (Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak) wants me to contest in Gelang Patah, I'll abide by his decision," he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, according to a Sinar Harian report, Abdul Ghani who is the incumbent Serom state assemblyperson, said he had not been informed by Najib if he is to move to a parliamentary seat.

He also held the names of Johor BN candidates close to his chest, refusing to divulge any details including the number of new candidates.

"As the prime minister has said, I will announce them a few days earlier compared to a day before the nomination day as previously done, so let us wait," he was quoted as saying.

‘MCA scared'

In a separate development, Sinar Harian reported that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has challenged MCA president Chua Soi Lek to contest in Gelang Patah against Kit Siang.

"The Gelang Patah seat belongs to MCA, why do they want it to be given to Umno?

"Why is Soi Lek (right) scared of contesting there? I think his answer he is afraid of us which is why they are suggesting Abdul Ghani instead," he was quoted as saying.

However he expressed confidence that DAP can capture the seat regardless who the BN candidate is.
