PKR's Sabah list includes Lajim & Bumburing
PETALING JAYA - PKR Sabah today announced the candidates for 19 parliamentary and 43 state constituencies including those from Angkatan Perpaduan Sabah (APS) and Pertubuhan Pakatan Perubahan Sabah (PPPS) contesting on the PKR ticket.
Sabah PKR chief Ahmad Thamrin Jaini, who made the announcement with PPPS chief Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin and APS head Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing at the party headquarters, said PKR candidates will contest 10 parliament and 20 state seats, while PPPS candidates will stand in four parliament and 11 state seats, and APS in five parliament and 12 state seats.
Wilfred and Lajim will contest both parliament and state seats, increasing the chances of either one becoming the next chief minister of the state.
Ahmad Thamrin said the negotiations over seats were done in mutual agreement between PKR, PPPS and APS.
However, he said discussions with that local Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) have failed, resulting in possible three-cornered fights in most seats.
"SAPP is not part of Pakatan Rakyat Sabah. There is a possibility of three-cornered fights but we are ready for that," he said.
SAPP had announced its desire to contest most seats in Sabah this time around.
Ahmad Thamrin also downplayed a possible rift in one faction of the party.
On April 5, Tuaran PKR chief Ansari Abdullah said Sabah PKR had announced his candidacy for the Tuaran parliamentary constituency and surgeon-activist-author Dr Chong Eng Leong for Sepanggar. The announcement was apparently based on an earlier promise by Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including Anwar Ibrahim, to giving the state coalition "autonomy" over its decisions.
However, Ansari was not even listed as a candidate this time around although he had threatened to stand in Tuaran as an independent candidate.
"It is normal in politics to have such problems. I think it is manageable. The priority is to change the (Barisan Nasional) government," said Ahmad Thamrin.
