Don't read GE13 results along racial lines - Chinese educationists group

Hua Zong (Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah urges all quarters not to be chauvinistic or read the polls results along racial lines, Sin Chew Daily reported yesterday.
He stressed it is clear that both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) have the support of all races in Malaysia, resulting in the two-party system.
"In other words, the 1Malaysia factor is present in both coalitions," he said.
He condemned those with extremist views, including politicians and media practitioners, who are questioning the Chinese 'Apa lagi Cina mahu?' (what else do the Chinese want?) through the print, social media and text messages after the election, in an attempt to vent their dissatisfaction over the results.
Pheng said putting the blame on the Chinese for losses is just an excuse, and any such act which stokes racial sentiments or even hatred, should be stopped.
He said he supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's call for national reconciliation to tackle any form of extremism and racism.
As for "Apa lagi Cina mahu?", Pheng said coalitions on both side of the political divide should understand every ethnic group has its own aspirations, perspectives and feelings.
Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association) said the loss of Chinese votes for BN in the polls showed that people were unhappy with some of its policies.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chinese educationists movement said it did not agree with the notion of a Chinese 'tsunami' in polls.
It said the seats won by PR showed that the opposition pact received support from all three major ethnic groups.
Likewise, there is no lack of support from any of the three ethnic groups for BN, it said.
Meanwhile, former Negri Sembilan mentri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad ticked off Utusan Malaysia for its 'Apa lagi Cina mahu?' report, saying it does not at all help Najib's move for "national reconciliation".
He urged all quarters to accept and respect the election results.
He said it is irresponsible to make such contrasting remarks against ethnic harmony even before a post mortem is completed on the election results.
Nobody should ask "Apa lagi Cina mahu?" just because there is a drop in Chinese support for BN, he said.
He told Sin Chew that initial analyses showed that there are still Chinese who voted for BN.
Does it mean those who voted for BN want nothing (else)? he asked.
