WASTING TIME WITH UMNO: Penang BN to soldier on for the people

WASTING TIME WITH UMNO: Penang BN to soldier on for the people
After the mauling received at the hands of an electorate hungry for change, the Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) non-Umno component parties are doing some soul-searching in a bid to regain support.
State Gerakan chief Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said solutions will have to be found to stem the dwindling support.
Despite the party's defeat, the former state exco member said Gerakan would not run away but continue to serve the people.
"The people have made their choice, so we will respect their decision," he told theSun.
Penang BN received a thrashing at the hands of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) at the polls on Sunday, where it only managed to win 10 out of 40 state seats.
Except for Umno, Gerakan, MCA and MIC lost every seat they contested in, in a repeat of the 2008 polls.
Nonetheless, MCA has expressed a desire to soldier on for the benefit of the people with state deputy chairman Datuk Dr Loh Hock Han saying the party's service centres remained open.
"The MCA office has been open since today," he said when contacted.
In the same boat is MIC, and state deputy chairman L. Krishnan said the party was determined to continue to work to uplift the Indian community.
He said the party was looking at increasing its member base and concentrating on providing quality service.
"It is business as usual for the MIC with an added emphasis on quality service," he said when contacted.
