MCA Youth deputy chairman Mah Hang Soon said MCA should bring forward its party elections in order to elect a new leadership to bring the party out of its current doldrums, adding that the new leadership could perhaps review the earlier EGM decision of not joining the Federal Cabinet.
Mah pointed out that he did not agree to hold an EGM now to overrule the earlier decision of not joining the Cabinet because it would instill a negative impression upon people if the same central delegates overturn their own decision made in an earlier EGM.
"For the time being there is no possibility of a reversal of that decision, unless we have a new set of delegates and new leadership who will review the decision."
The only elected MCA state assemblyman in Perak, Mah has declined any post in the new state exco.
He told Sin Chew Daily in an exclusive interview that holding another EGM to overthrow MCA's earlier decision would only erode the party's integrity, or even spark a new round of party infighting.
He supported the views of MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai that the most urgent thing for MCA now is to stay united at this difficult time.
"The party president has said he will not seek re-election in year-end's party elections, but I feel we should hold the party elections earlier and hand over the baton to the newly elected party leadership so that MCA could walk out of the current doldrums and emerge strong again."
Unite & reform
Mah emphasised that MCA must stay united and reform, and that the party can no longer take another round of party infighting.
As for the decision of not joining the Cabinet, Mah said everyone must respect the decision made in the EGM, unless the new leadership would review the decision and make a new one.
He said there is no time for MCA to lose, and the party has to be delivered from the depth of the valley as soon as possible or be completely forsaken by the Chinese community.
As in 2008, Mah is again the only MCA elected rep in Perak. But different from last time, he will only be a state assemblyman this time and will not accept any offer of state exco post.
"Declining any government post has been a party decision which I must obey, until and unless the party has come out with a new decision."
