MCA not selling off assets - Soi Lek

MCA not selling off assets - Soi Lek
MCA has denied rumours the party is selling off its assets including The Star.
"All assets bought are registered under the party, therefore there is a mechanism to facilitate any purchase or sale of assets," said party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
"One such mechanism includes requiring a two-thirds majority of the CC to approve such a motion, and organising an extraordinary general meeting to make that decision," he said at a press conference after chairing the party's central committee meeting.
Rumours have it that MCA is organising a fire-sale of its assets worth more than RM2 billion.
Yesterday, Chua again declined the Transport Ministry portfolio despite it being offered by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to represent the Chinese.
"The prime minister understands the party's resolution not to take up any government post (in view of the party's worst ever polls outing). It is best to ask him about it," he said.
MCA won only seven parliamentary seats and 11 state seats.
On the issue of MCA national organising secretary Datuk Tee Siew Kiong accepting his appointment as a Johor state exco under the request of the Johor sultan, Chua said Tee will be referred to the disciplinary board.
"Tee has taken a long leave, during which he will not be participating in any party activity," he said, adding that no member should accept any government post.
On Monday, MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said members accepting government posts should not remain in the party.
Meanwhile, Chua also said the boycott of products purportedly made by Chinese businessmen who allegedly were anti-establishment should not be encouraged as it will be detrimental to the country.
"Such actions will only raise tensions among racial groups, and will hurt the country's economy."
