Netizen nabbed for seditious remark against sultan
A person who allegedly posted a seditious comment against the Terengganu sultan on Facebook has been detained by the police for investigation, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said.
If found guilty, the suspect may face a fine of not more than RM5,000, a year in jail, or both.
The MCMC views seriously abuse of the social media to upload derogatory contents, especially that involving the monarchy, it said.
"The laws of the nation are enforced, whether it is offline or online," MCMC chairperson Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi added.
"A crime is still a crime, even if it's on the social media. Social media users should be aware that they are not as invincible as they thought," Sharil said in a statement issued today.
He urged the people to be careful and more responsible when communicating in cyberspace.
"Those who break the law will be brought to justice," Sharil added.

ReplyDeleteI have followed LEGAL (& ORTHODOX) CHANNELS to (personally) lodge multiple complaints to the MCMC, no a single reply came back, not even an acknowledgement!
