Now MACC initiates graft probe against rape suspect

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started its investigation on a claim of possible corrupt practise involved in the case of a restaurant manager charged with raping an under-aged girl in Kota Kinabalu.

MACC director of investigation, Datuk Mustafar Ali, in a statement here last tonight, said the investigation by the commission is being carried out with the cooperation of other agencies.
Riduan Masmud, 40, was charged with raping the 12 years and six months old girl, in a car parked by the roadside at Inanam, Sabah, at about 10am on Feb 18.

However, during the trial, he married the girl.

Sessions Court judge Ummu Khatom Abd Samad gave until June 6 for the Attorney-General's Chambers to decide whether or not to go ahead with the case.

On May 7, deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Nazmeen Zulkifli informed the court that he had no objection to the case being withdrawn after the victim withdrew the police report which she lodged on April 18.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail had on Wednesday given the assurance that the case was still open.

He was also reported to have requested MACC's intervention over the RM5,000 payment of "Sogit" or compensation given by the accused to the girl's father.
