Batu MP Tian Chua, along with Anything but Umno (ABU) leader Haris Ibrahim and PAS member Tamrin Ghafar are to be released after police’s applications for remand were rejected by the magistrate today.
The matter was revealed by lawyer Ashok Kandiah, who said the three are in the process of being released from the Jinjang police station, where they were held since their arrests yesterday.
The trio are being investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 following their participation in a post-electoral forum at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) on May 13.
They were picked up by authorities in various locations yesterday afternoon, and police will now have to make a fresh application for remand if they wish to remand them further.
