The former DAP leader says Waythamoorthy would know the right policies to be implemented to address and resolve Indian issues in the country.
GEORGE TOWN: Former Transparency International-Malaysia chapter president Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim is all praises for the appointment of Hindraf supremo P Waythamoorthy as deputy minister.
As a grassroots human rights activist, Tunku Aziz said Waythamoorthy was the right person to comprehend the exact problems faced by Indians.
The former DAP leader is also convinced that Waythamoorthy would know the right policies to be implemented to address and resolve Indian issues in the country.
He also said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak made the correct decision in appointing a perfect civil rights activist to implement the five-year blueprint to uplift the much marginalised Indian community in the country.
“Waythamoorthy is the right person to execute the task.
“Najib had shown his wisdom in appointing the right man for the right job.
“Indians in the country should back Najib and Waythamoorthy.
“Indians should assist them to uplift the marginalised Indians,” Tunku Aziz told FMT here today.
He said Hindraf was the catalyst of Indian rights movements in the country, triggering widespread awareness among the minority communities on their rights.
Prior to Waythamoorthy and Hindraf, he said minority rights did not take place centre stage in human rights activism in the country despite existence of so many movements.
He acknowledged that for so long large segment of Indians had been isolated from the mainstream socio-economic development of the country.
He said Najib had taken a bold step to resolve Indian problems at their roots to correct the past historical wrongs done on the community.
“The Prime Minister has readily admitted and apologised for the mistakes.
“Now he has initiated a pro-active plan to resolve them.
“Everyone should allow Najib and Waythamoorthy to carry out their task.
“Let our Indian brothers and sisters to reap benefits of the country’s prosperity,” said Tunku Aziz.
On Friday, MIC disputed Waythamoorthy’s appointment to head a special unit formed under the Prime Minister’s Department to oversee the Indian affairs.
MIC president G Palanivel said he would be meeting the prime minister to hand over that task to MIC.
