DAP MPs will not boycott swearing-in, says Kit Siang

Parliamentarians from the DAP will not boycott the swearing-in ceremony for the elected members of parliament which has been fixed for June 24, the party's parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said.

Several media today reported the senior parliamentarian as saying that the DAP is not satisfied with the electoral system and it will file election petitions against the election results.

dap special meeting 110313 lim kit siang 2He pointed out that the May 5 general election was not the party's first and that the DAP has been critical of the unfairness, undemocratic and corrupt elements in the election.

The Gelang Patah MP was responding to the urging from a coalition of NGOs for MPs to boycott the swearing-in ceremony as a protest against the alleged massive electoral fraud and irregularities in the 13th general election.

Other Pakatan MPs including Seremban MP Anthony Loke and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli were reported to have said that the opposition would boycott the briefing for MPs in Parliament on Tuesday.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has also refused to submit any question for the inaugural sitting of the 13th Parliament and is reported to be mulling the issue of a probable boycott of its opening session.

'Boycott action childish, utterly irresponsible'

On the other hand, MCA publicity chief Heng Seai Kie described the reported boycott action of the Pakatan MPs as "childish, immature, and utterly irresponsible".

NONE"If Pakatan insists on continuing this boycott stunt of theirs, they might as well not participate in the swearing-in ceremony.

"I then advise all of them to resign as Members of Parliament so that more sincere and hardworking and qualified people can take their place," Heng (left) said in a statement today.

She said Anwar's refusal to submit questions to the Dewan Rakyat was also a "lousy example".

"As Pakatan's de facto head, Anwar should lead the way by resigning and keeping to his word that he will retire from politics if Pakatan fails to win the general election.

"He should stop hiding behind allegations of electoral fraud and stop using Black 505 rallies as an excuse to stay on in his quest for power.

"Not only will this damage his reputation as an accountable politician but it will also tarnish Malaysia's image as a democratic nation," Heng added.
