Dhamendran murder: COP ABSCONDS!

Dhamendran murder: COP ABSCONDS!
An investigations officer (IO) under probe for the custodial death case of 31-year-old N. Dhamendran, who was not present in court to face murder charges on Wednesday, has absconded.
A special police team has been assigned to search for the missing officer who was attached to the Kuala Lumpur CID's serious crimes (D9) branch.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said the officer had gone missing from work days before the Attorney-General's Chambers decided on Wednesday to charge the officer and three rank-and-file detectives over the death of Indah Water worker Dhamendran.
Mohd Bakri did not reveal the identity of the officer but said the IO was among the four policemen named in the charge sheet for the murder case.
"He is a wanted man and we are looking for him. So far, our investigations show he has not fled the country," he told theSun when contacted.
The officer and three other CID personnel were assigned to desk duties following a probe into Dhamendran's death on May 21. A post mortem revealed he had died of injuries from blunt force trauma.
When asked if the officer absconding could have been avoided had he been held under remand like other regular murder suspects, Mohd Bakri said: "He is a government servant, a police officer. We have to investigate who caused his death before detaining any police personnel.
"There is also an ongoing internal probe into the case and we are also re-examining current SOPs (standard operating procedures)," he said.
On Wednesday, Sergeant Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Corporal Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman, 45, and Corporal Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32, were charged for murder just hours after the AG Chambers issued a statement announcing the decision to prosecute the policemen.
