Hisham: We can name hands in Lahad Datu incursion

The Defence Ministry has no problem naming the three Opposition leaders it says were involved in the Lahad Datu incursion in February, if identifying them does not jeopardise the operations to track down the terrorists there.

NONE"Our intelligence agencies have been monitoring the situation closely," Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said today.
"What is important is to find the best solution in exposing the terrorists. What is important for Sabah is security and stability," he said.

"The information that we have received, if used intelligently and does not affect the operation in the future - I don't see why we should not reveal (the names of the opposition leaders involved) to the public," Hishammuddin told a press conference after visiting the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) camp in Subang.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also said earlier three opposition leaders - two from the peninsula and one from Sabah -have been identified as being behind the incursion and that their names have been sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

However, Zahid too did not name the leaders, saying did not want to reveal names before the general election to avoid being accused that he was using the issue for political expediency. He later said he would not name them to avoid prejudicing the case when it is taken to court.
Hishammuddin also said that cooperation from international intelligence agencies such as Interpol and the Philippines intelligence should be taken into account before revealing the names.
'Irresponsible act'

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin also branded the opposition’s decision not to attend the parliamentary briefing session yesterday in the Parliament as an “irresponsible” act.

“Very irresponsible. I only saw one representative from the opposition yesterday. Not only it is disrespectful to the speaker, it is also disrespectful to the existing process,” he said.

“What they did does not resemble their appreciation to the rakyat who had voted them into the Dewan Rakyat,” he added.

Only DAP’s Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa attended the briefing, while 88 other opposition parliamentarians did not attend the briefing.

However, Er has been given a stern warning by party whip Anthony Loke for breaching party discipline by attending the briefing.

DAP had asked all its parliamentarians not to attend the briefing yesterday.
