Mahathir wants history based on HIS STORY!

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has proposed that history be re-written - for the sake of the younger generation.

Among others, the Mahathir-endorsed history books would include actions and decisions by the government in the past so that younger generation could understand them better.

The UMNO strongman argued that this would help create a better-informed society and more critical leaders.

“We need to do more. We need to learn from the history of other countries such as why Arab Spring had taken place. Then we ask ourselves, whether we want this to happen here," said the 87-year old, who has consistently dismissed the Arab awakening which saw the fall of US-backed dictators.

"There are some who say they want to see Arab Spring in Malaysia. They are more willing to ignore stability, peace and topple the leaders. So we must sit down to understand what is democracy and tell them to trust the government,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Mahathir also said he regretted giving a guarantee of internet freedom in Malaysia.

"When I headed the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), I was asked by an American woman whether we would block the Internet. I told her no, we will be very free," he recalled, before adding, "But now I will think twice about it."
