Speaker: Pakatan will ensure Selesa Bill is tabled

Pakatan Rakyat will make sure the Selangor Legislative Assembly Service Commission Enactment (Selesa) is tabled and passed in the coming state assembly sitting, state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh said today.

Once passed, the enactment would given more independence to the state legislature and also, more power to state assemblypersons, said the country's first woman speaker, adding that she wished to see the new enactment passed within her tenure.

"I not foresee any obstacle from the new line-up we have," Yeoh said.

"The Bill is still being studied at the executive level and the state legal adviser also wants to have a look at it," she said, adding that the Bill would need feedback from the assemblypersons before it is tabled.

Yeoh, who is the assemblyperson for Subang Jaya, said the people could also expect more select committees to be set up during this term of the Pakatan state government.

"I will meet with the opposition leader (Mohd Shamsudin Lias) to offer him the role of state public accounts committee (PAC) chairperson," she told a press conference after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the Selangor assemblypersons earlier today.

Yeoh and Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had earlier been sworn-in as speaker and deputy speaker.
