The Sri Muneswarar Kaliyaman Temple committee wants the FT minister to revoke an eviction order issued by the land office
PETALING JAYA: The Sri Muneswarar Kaliyaman Temple committee in Jalan P Ramlee, is planning a protest outside the DBKL headquarters against an eviction notice issued against it.
The committee’s legal representative, M Manogaran, said that the protest, on June 26, is aimed at getting Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to revoke the notice.
“Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had promised that no temple will be demolished prior to the general election. It looks like Najib is washing his hands off this,” said the former Teluk Intan MP.
On June 13, the Federal Territories Land Office issued a notice to the temple, located at the heart of the Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, urging them to vacate the premises by June 26.
The land office also said that they were planning to “clean up” the land the following day.
On why they were protesting against DBKL when it was the land office that issued the notice, Manogaran claimed that the authority was acting at the behest of the local council.
“But we will not give up. We will fight this,” he said at a press conference in the temple premises today. The protest is scheduled to be held at 2pm on June 26.
Also present were were PKR MPs N Surendran, R Sivarasa, its human rights and legal bureau chairman S Jayathas, and temple committee chairman RA Balasubramaniam.
The temple committee was slapped with the eviction notice from DBKL in September last year, instructing the occupants to move out within 30 days.
The local council subsequently revoked the order after the temple committee protested against it.
