Change does not guarantee people’s prosperity and well-being, says Najib

Malaysians should learn lessons from the conflict in Egypt where change as demanded by some does not g uarantee prosperity and well-being for the people.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said change that was not managed well could bring suffering to the people through price hikes of goods, rising unemployment, crippling of the tourism industry and so on.
"In the end, it will cause the people themselves to demand for another change as the change they had wanted did not fulfil their needs and aspirations," he told Malaysian journalists at the end of his four-day working visit to London, yesterday.
Najib was commenting on the latest conflict in Egypt which saw the toppling of President Mohamed Morsi, who was democratically elected by the people on June 30, 2012 to replace Hosni Mubarak.
Najib said what was important for Egypt now was to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, besides ensuring that a general election be held soon in a fair and inclusive manner.
Najib said what was happening in Egypt was an internal matter, and "although we don't support the military action, it has happened".
"Hopefully, a new government can be formed, one that mirrors the needs and aspirations of the Egyptian people and that can ensure long-term stability for the country," he added.
On the refusal of some people in certain countries including Malaysia to accept the results of the general elections which were carried out in a democratic manner, Najib said what was important was for the dissatisfaction to be channelled through the process of law and based on the Constitution.
Najib then left for Kuala Lumpur after being in London since Monday and earlier he was in Dar es Salam, Tanzania to attend the Global Smart Partnership Dialogue.
