Gerakan: EAIC should probe rogue cops claim

Gerakan Acting President Chang Ko Youn has called on the Home Ministry and the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) to probe claims that rogue cops were involved in the assassination attempt on MyWatch chairperson R Seri Sanjeevan.

NONE"The alleged attempted murder will undermine public confidence in our police and deter public cooperation in future.

"The integrity and professionalism of police personnel must be scrutinised to verify and quell the accusations," he said in a press statement today.

Chang (right) also called for tougher gun control following a string of execution-style shootings.

"Arms trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms and organised crimes of the underworld are the issues related to the worrying trend of shooting incidents and violent crimes that the authorities must now urgently and steadfastly look into and solve before the situation deteriorates further," he said.

Just hours before Sanjeevan's shooting, the victim had alleged onTwitter that a cop had threatened to give syndicate members weapons to shoot at his house and family.

NONEYesterday, AmBank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi was shot dead in Kuala Lumpur while his wife survived with two-gun shot wounds and in Butterworth, a man was killed while driving when two men on motorcycle fired on him.

Meanwhile, PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat urged the public to be proactive to avoid becoming crime victims.

"The government and police like to convince themselves that crime perception is going down but increasingly more rakyat are becoming crime victims.

"It is appropriate for the rakyat to take proactive steps to protect their family and themselves until the authorities wake up from their dream to take drastic action with the rakyat in curbing crime," he said.
