IGP: Police planning to meet ex-drug dealer

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said his men would meet the NGO and the former drug dealer on the alleged link between the police and a drug syndicate.
PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said today that he is willing to cooperate with anti-crime NGO MyWatch on an ex-drug dealer who alleged that he bribed the police for information on drug stakeouts.
“The police are ready to work with MyWatch to investigate the matter further. We are going to interview the former drug dealer on his claims.
“I want to know who is behind this so-called hidden deal,” said Khalid, after attending a police community function in Mentari Court, Petaling Jaya.
On Monday, FMT published an exclusive interview with a former drug pusher who claimed that he had paid between RM30,000 and RM50,000 a month to the police for protection and information on police stakeouts.
The man, who claimed to have sold drugs for about three years, also said the police would call him often for more money.
Former IGP Musa Hassan had since urged the whistle-blower to name the officers.
Musa had said that he would have take stern action against the errant policemen if he knew about the matter during his tenure.
Khalid said he was making arrangements for the police to meet MyWatch and the former drug dealer.
“I have spoken to MyWatch chairman R Sri Sanjeevan and he has agreed to the meeting to investigate the claim of corruption among my men,” said Khalid.
