MIC president G Palanivel has dropped party strategy director S Vell Paari - the son of former president S Samy Vellu - from the central working committee (CWC) in a move that signals a major feud is unraveling.
Palanivel (left), who was Samy Vellu’s chosen successor for the top post, has reportedly picked former vice-president S Sothinathan and S Sunthar, the son of former deputy president S Subramaniam, to sit in the all-powerful CWC.
Sunthar will replace Puteri MIC chief Usha Nandini.

When contacted, Vell Paari said he is unperturbed about the latest development.
“I knew this was coming. As far as I am concerned, it does not affect me. I will go on with my work,” he said.
Asked why Palanivel resorted to the move, he replied: “Perhaps it is related to a recent media interview where I spoke about a possible challenge for the top post.”
According to media reports today, a statement issued by Palanivel's office thanked Vell Paari for his services.
The situation is becoming increasingly tense in MIC where speculation is rife that deputy president Dr S Subramaniam could mount a challenge against Palanivel.
It is said that Samy Vellu is calling the shots from behind the scenes with regard to the campaign against Palanivel, who was his press secretary.
