Malay rights group Perkasa has again resorted to its oft-used ”find another country” remark, this time to groups that purportedly do not support schools that promote national integration.
Perkasa education bureau chair Prof Mohd Amir Sharifuddin said this when commenting on United Chinese Schools Committee Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) board of directors' request to the government to recognise the United Examination Certificate (UEC).
Mohd Amir said endorsing the UEC examination would be going against the national education policy.
He called on the government to stop helping vernacular schools as they did not foster national integration.
"How can schools of different mediums aid integration? Find another country where there is such a practice," he was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini.
According to Amir, if the government endorsed the UEC, more Chinese students would be sent to Chinese-medium schools for secondary education, where the UEC is offered.
He also hit out at Dong Zong for allegedly making demands every time an election was around the corner, adding that during these times, Putrajaya would always give in.
“We urge the government to stop doing this and be stern on the issue of building racial integration from the school level,” Amir reportedly said.
