BN will campaign on the "offensive" in the Kajang by-election this month, but it will not resort to "personal attacks", Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
Speaking at a press conference after a closed-door meeting with BN leaders in the state constituency today, Muhyiddin said the coalition would behave like "gentlemen" when it comes to campaigning.
"But we want to be on the offensive, because if we are defensive, just responding to the opposition, then the people will think we are weak," he said.
Last month, Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan (left) said the Kajang by-election would see BN employ a "sex and smut" campaign against the PKR candidate, Anwar Ibrahim.
However, the Election Commission reminded political parties not to resort to such personal attacks during campaigning and to abide by existing regulations and code of ethics.
Muhyiddin also reminded BN that "voters are kings" in this by-election and their welfare needs are to be taken care of by the party machinery.
Meanwhile, on a separate matter, he advised the people to follow the advice of the health and environmental government agencies accordingly in light of the current worsening haze situation.
