Guan Eng mum over Sarawak DAP quit threat

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had refused to respond to the recent developments between the party and PAS in Sarawak.

The Penang chief minister merely said that he would issue a statement on the matter.

Asked why he did not want to respond immediately, told a press conference today: "You know why.

"With the BN media around, there will be twists to our remarks, so it is better that you wait for my statement."

Yesterday, Malaysiakinireported that Sarawak DAP may quit Pakatan Rakyat if PAS continues to work with Putrajaya over the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

Until PAS gives up its desire to do so, Sarawak DAP is planning to distance itself from all activities organised by PAS in the east Malaysian state.

This ultimatum was discussed at the state DAP committee meeting in Sibu last Saturday, as the party prepares itself for the Sarawak state elections expected to be called soon.

Quiet on S'gor MB change

Lim also declined to respond to questions about the recent political developments in Selangor following PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim's confirmation that there will be a "smooth transition of power" in the state.

"Let's wait for Pakatan Rakyat council to meet,” he curtly said, adding that a media alert would be issued when the meeting is called.

The transition involves the removal of serving Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, who will most likely be replaced by PKR president and Anwar's wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations next week.

Khalid, who is in his second term as MB, has incurred the wrath of some backbenchers and Selangor DAP and PKR leaders, who have been attacking him on several fronts.

He is accused of mishandling the seizure of 300 copies of the Bible from the Bible Society of Malaysia by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

Khalid has also been criticised for the prolonged water restructuring exercise and his non-consultation with stakeholders affected by the Kinrara-Damasara Expressway (Kidex).
