SAMM denies FB death threat against Najib

Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) has denied that one of its members from Penang had issued a death threat against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

SAMM said five reports were lodged against the member, Afzanizam Hashim, over the Facebook account "Ahli Fikir", which the group claimed is a false account.

"The allegations are baseless and a malicious slander towards SAMM and one of its members because the Facebook account is false, it is an attempt to destroy the good reputation of our group," the NGO's propaganda director Edy Noor Reduan (right) said in a statement.

"After knowing about theFacebook account, the victim of slander had immediately lodged a police report on Jul 17, 2pm, at the Bandar Perda police station, even before the reports which were lodged against him.

"Afzanizam has given his statement at the Kepala Batas police station and had shown his cooperation with the police."

The five NGOs that lodged reports against Afzanizam are 1Malaysia Malay Army Veterans Association (PVTM), Malaysian Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (Irimm), Wanita Jaringan Rakyat (Wajar) and Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (Permas), which were represented by PVTM president Mohd Ali Baharom.

The groups lodged their reports at the Sungai Besi police station in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday, demanding Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar act against the Facebook account owner.

Edy Noor said the creation of false Facebook accounts have become a trend by irresponsible quarters and claimed SAMM members have been victims before.

He added that among the victims are SAMM founder Badrul Hisham Shaharin who was implicated in a false Facebook fan-page insulting royalties.

"We are prepared and we support the authorities' move to thoroughly probe the matter," Edy Noor said.

However, at the same time, he urged the police to act on death threats made against Pakatan Rakyat  leaders, including former Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"Where are the results of the probes on death threats issued by those who are pro-government (pro-BN)? Are they all lost in the Indian ocean?" he quipped.
