RARE DECENT ACT: Malaysians in NZ relieved at Putrajaya's 'sex attack' decision

RARE DECENT ACT: M'sians in NZ relieved at Putrajaya's 'sex attack' decision
As a member of Malaysian community in New Zealand, my comments on the Malaysian Diplomat Muhammad Rizalman Ismail’s case was reported in the media recently.
I expressed shock and embarrassment over the matter and called for:
i. The Malaysian government to front up quickly to avoid bad publicity.
ii. To waive the diplomatic immunity for Muhammad Rizalman Ismail for his criminal act.
iii. To send Rizalman back to NZ to face the criminal charges.
I applaud the Malaysian government for their swift decision to waive the immunity and send Rizalman, who is innocent until proven guilty, back to NZ to help with the investigation. In my view, this outcome has provided a sense of relieve to the Malaysian community in New Zealand.
The Malaysian Diplomatic corps in Wellington has conducted themselves very professionally and credibly well in this “difficult and complex” case. I am very proud of their commendable professionalism.
The diplomatic issues aside, the young victim and her family can now feel relieved by the decision of the Malaysian government.
I welcome the offer by the Malaysian government to provide legal assistance to Rizalman, who is expected to be arrested on his arrival in NZ. I am confident, both Rizalman and the victim will be supported by the communities in Wellington through the difficult times.
In line with the Malaysian tradition, I wish my Muslim friends Selamat Berpuasa dan Selamat Hari Raya, (Happy fasting and Happy Eid festival in the month of Ramadan) -Malay Mail
