Sabah Pakatan seeks no confidence vote against CM

Pakatan Rakyat Sabah today filed an application to move a vote of no confidence against Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, in light of several kidnappings on the state’s east coast this year.

Sri Tanjong assemblyperson Chan Foong Hin said they believed Musa should be held responsible for the failure of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) in ensuring security.

“As the chairperson of Esscom, it is his responsibility to ensure the overall security of the state,” Chan said.

The DAP Sabah vice-chairperson represented Sabah state assembly opposition leader Lajim Ukin in handing over the application to the state legislative secretariat.

Chan (left) added that they also requested that the voting be done by secret ballot and not by show of hands.

Issues of intrusion and kidnapping in the east coast of Sabah have been going on for many years, capped by the Lahad Datu intrusion by Sulu terrorists last year.

Following the Sulu intrusion, the government set up the Esscom, but the kidnapping incidents continued.

Last year, a Taiwanese tourist was murdered and his wife kidnapped from Pom Pom Island off Sabah.

In April, two people, one a Chinese national, were kidnapped from a resort in Semporna.

In May, five gunmen abducted a fish farm manager in Pulau Baik, off Lahad Datu, and two men were abducted from a fish farm by two armed men in Kunak, Semporna, last month.
